Aging is a natural process and not a disease. There are numerous benefits to growing older but many of us associate aging with ill health and disability like heart disease, prostate problems, fatigue and arthritis. These age related disorders are mainly caused by life-style choices such as diet, environmental toxins, lack of exercise and stress and some genetic susceptibility. The more we take charge now, the more we can bring balance and harmony into our bodily systems. We can’t stop aging, it’s natural, but we do want to prevent premature aging to ensure the best and longest quality of life.

Many of you have heard about reducing the impact of free radicals in your body from toxins in our environment and improving your diet. We know the importance of diet changes and of exercise and detoxification. Hormone balance is a key to healthy aging. This is particularly true of stress hormones such as cortisol and DHEA. A deficiency or abnormal elevation of these hormones accelerates aging and immune system breakdown. In fact, all hormones are important for aging and well being. Thyroid, testosterone, estrogen and growth hormones must be kept in balance to the slow aging process and maintain good health eg your blood sugar levels. Stress appears to play a role in aging. If you have prolonged periods of stress, you are more likely to have chronic problems, especially in hormonal related problems like prostate enlargement.

Full Lymphatic Massage:

Aromatherapy massage has a direct effect on the nervous system. There are ganglia or nerve cells around spine that serve as reflex points. Nerve fibres pass through these ganglia and form groups. They go to different organs and glands of the body. Balancing and stimulating these points through massage has a normalizing effect on the functions of these organs. Excellent for enhancing circulation, balancing nervous system, removing congestion, promoting relaxation and improving immune system Great for relieving stress associated with overuse of adrenals.

Rub oils on pelvic area or add to bath daily at home; warm compress over lower abdomen or back.

Baths: Add 1 TBS massage oil to bath water to relax and for symptomatic relief.

Drops on tissue: Put a few drops of oil on tissue and put under pillow. Good for insomnia. E.g chamomile or frankinsence. Use at home as bath oil, massage oil especially on abdomen, in diffuser for mood and emotional support.

Prostate Health.

Prostate enlargement is determined by the balance between estrogen, testosterone and DHT (dyhydrotestosterone). Proper hormone balance can be aided with diet, exercise, nutrition and detoxification.

I will highlight how bodywork therapies such as acupuncture, essential oil lympthatic massage and Reiki energy work help maintain a normal hormonal balance. These therapies can complement your diet and exercise regime. In fact, these treatments will further enhance the healing process, reduce symptomatic complaints of urinary problems and speed up the healing process. They do in effect help to postpone the aging process.

2. Acupuncture/ Shiatsu

The Chinese have discovered hundreds of acupuncture points that relate to the internal organs by way of meridian networks.  Meridians are a network of energy pathways that connect points to one another and to the organs and glands. These meridians connect the 12 organs. Acupuncture works to balance the body on endocrine level. By needling or pressing on these points, relief of symptoms can ensue. It releases muscular tension, balances hormones, promote circulations of the blood and stimulates the body’s natural self curative abilities. Acupuncture can release endorphins and other natural substances in your body that block pain.  It can also help to detoxify the body of waste products. It releases toxins that are built up in the body’s tissue so drink water.

I like to combine acupuncture with other body therapies such as full lymphatic massage using essential oils and Reiki. This integrated treatment regulates hormones, strengthens your immune system and relieves symptomatic complaints.

The major points for prostate health are on the Kidney meridian. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the kidney is responsible for our “essence”, including the vitality of reproductive organs such as prostate in men and ovaries in women. A healthy prostate must have healthy flow of chi in the Kidney Meridian.  A treatment would include small needles on the back for kidney essence (urinary bladder 23 and Du 4) as well as Kidney 3 and 10 on legs. The prostate reflex point is on the inner ankle on Urinary bladder point 62. On the front of the body, it would be important to needle points on the Ren meridian such as Ren 3, 4 and 6 that improve chi flow in the body specifically to sexual organs.

Acupressure Self Care for Prostate Health: At home, you can massage or apply pressure to these points to help balance the chi and offer symptomatic relief of symptoms.

There are 350 chakras and 7 major chakras and 22 minor chakras.

Benefits of Chakra Balancing For Men’s Health

Emotions and beliefs affect health through the chakra system. Thoughts and feelings impact health by manifesting first in our energy field and chakras. When energy is blocked, our nervous and endocrine system become imbalanced and we experience physical symptoms. Releasing blocks helps to alleviate symptoms and promotes well being and hormonal balance in the whole body. Body work therapies like Chakra balancing, acupressure, Reiki, Reflexology help to release these emotions and energy blocks, thereby lessening symptoms.
